“You either love or hate the travel industry”: Insight Vacations CEO

To celebrate the simply fabulous Women in TravelTravel Weekly has spent the last couple of months catching up with the powerhouse women from our incredible industry.

From the head honchos of wholesalers and agencies, to airline execs and today, the CEO of Insight Vacations and Luxury Gold.

Yes, lovely readers, say hello to amazing and inspiring ‘Woman in Travel’, Ulla Hefel Böhler.

“I think travel is the kind of industry you either love or hate”

You need to be passionate and to be OK with putting in the extra hours – this may entail shift work, working seven days a week and being on call 24/7.

I never saw that as a major drawback though, it’s just a different lifestyle and you adapt to it.

“There is much to do to ensure equality in the workplace across all sectors”

I think in the travel industry the gender pay gap is compounded by the unsocial hours that go hand in hand with the industry.

As a mother of two I have firsthand experience of how difficult it is to juggle family life and my commitments as CEO of Insight Vacations and Luxury Gold.

“There are challenges every day in our industry and you need to thrive on challenges and keep a positive outlook”

Our industry is always directly impacted by any economic downturn. But I firmly believe that every challenge is also an opportunity.

The companies that are agile and overcome those challenges better and faster than others will thrive.

Travel Weekly is proud to present the Women in Travel Awards held on 27 November at Doltone House Darling Island.
