70+ flights affected due to major Sydney winds

The high winds hitting Sydney today have left numerous flights cancelled or delayed, according to airline flight updates and local media reports.

The ABC was reporting as more than 70 flights have been affected, with a whole heap more cancelled after winds rose to as high as 60km per hour.

An airport spokeswoman told ABC that up to 70 flights were stopped, and just one runway out of three was operating due to the strong gusts of wind.

On Jetstar’s website, a statement read, “Due to strong winds in Sydney today there have been delays and cancellations to some flights in and out of Sydney Airport.

“Please check the current status of your flight on our Flight status page.

“Passengers on affected flights can go to Manage booking and move onto the next Jetstar flight with available seats, or you can opt to receive a credit voucher. Please be aware that our call centre is experiencing a high volume of calls.”

You can see all the affected flights below.

In addition, Virgin Australia issued statements claiming, “Due to strong cross winds at Sydney Airport today, Air Traffic Control has reduced operations down to a single runway, which may impact your Virgin Australia flight.

“We are working to get our guests on their way as quickly as possible. Latest flight information can be found here: https://flightstatus.virginaustralia.com/flightNumber
