VIRTUOSO TRAVEL WEEK TRAINING SETS A NEW RECORD
International luxury travel network Virtuoso has gathered some of the industry’s brightest lights to share their wisdom with the network’s advisors during Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas.
On Sunday, August 13, Virtuoso’s award-winning professional development program will offer sessions on 24 topics to help thousands of advisors develop their expertise, sharpen their competitive edge, and increase sales.
The roster of expert speakers, including members of the media, consultants, partner executives and agency owners and managers, will present on topics as varied as increasing productivity to culinary travel trends to attracting new clients.
Virtuoso is expecting a strong turnout for the eagerly anticipated sessions Sunday, with more than 5,000 classes to be taken by attendees, a 26 percent increase over last year.
Sarah Jessica Parker joined more than 5,600 travel industry professionals, including 120 APAC advisors, at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas this week to launch luxury travel’s equivalent of ‘Fashion Week’.
The star, who also launched her first stand alone shoe store in the Hotel on Sunday, addressed the opening ceremony along with international model, Rachel Hunter.
Virtuoso APAC Managing Director, Michael Londregan said there was no coincidence these two fashion icons were putting their support behind the luxury travel industry.
“Everyone knows New York Fashion Week and what we are starting to see is the concept around luxury and lifestyle is also extending very much into travel,” he said from Las Vegas.
Riviera Travel hosts travel industry famil ahead of Australian showcase
Riviera Travel has hosted its first Australian travel industry famil on its European river ships as part of the company’s first foray into the booming Australian river cruise market.
Riviera Travel’s Sales Manager for Australia, Shelley Davey, based in the UK, will also visit Australia this month to host a booth at the CLIA Cruise 360 Australasia Conference in Sydney on August 25 as well as a CLIA webinar on August 30 and also meet local wholesalers and travel agents.
Joining the recent, seven-day famil on the Rhone River in France aboard Riviera Travel’s five-star river ship, Lord Byron, was a three-person team from wholesaler, Cruise Traveller, which helps distribute Riviera Travel product in Australia. The lucky trio to experience Riviera’s Burgundy, River Rhone and Provence cruise were Product Manager, Sam Patton, Business Development Manager, Karen Revelle, and Travel Consultant Madeline Bielak.
Sam said the Cruise Traveller team was impressed by their first-hand experience, which would help the group market and sell Riviera Travel’s extensive range of European river cruises in Australia.
“The Lord Byron is a beautiful ship with friendly staff and we loved the Rhone – such pretty countryside with charming locals everywhere we went,” said Sam. “But what impressed us the most was the price point, with Riviera’s fares up to 50 per cent lower than those charged by other river companies – and yet there was no compromise on the product quality.
More than 100 dead in Nepali Floods and Landslides Relief Packages Urgently Needed
Flash floods and landslides, triggered by heavy rainfall, have swept across the southern plains of Nepal. More than 100 people are confirmed dead. Others are still missing. The Nepali government estimates that 60,000 families are displaced because their homes are under water.
People affected by leprosy, disability and poverty are especially vulnerable following disasters. They are often forgotten and excluded in immediate responses and relief efforts. Relief packages are urgently needed.
The Leprosy Mission is in the first phase of organising relief. Now calling for donations by the Australian public for the next two weeks, they aim to fund 250 Relief Packages. These will include emergency food items, tarpaulins, utensils and medical items and services.
To deliver one Relief Package costs approximately AU$160. It will provide a vulnerable community with safe shelter and enough medicine and food to survive the immediate aftermath of this disaster.
The Leprosy Mission currently operates projects in the affected regions of Rautahat, Ramechhap and Chitwan and is well-placed to carry out a relief program.
You can help provide those in need with safe shelter, medicine and food to support vulnerable families—those affected by leprosy, disability and poverty.
GIVE NOW to help a community. Or share this need with your friends.
Provide a Relief Package by donating by August 31 via phone on 1800 LEPROSY (1800 537 767) or online: https://chuffed.org/project/250-relief-packages-for-nepal
If more than the intended target of $40,000 for 250 relief packages is raised, donations will provide additional relief packages to those affected. The Leprosy Mission team in Nepal are planning to deliver at least 700 relief packages.
All gifts $2 and over to The Leprosy Mission Australia are tax deductable.
Updates on this disaster and your relief efforts will be documented on The Leprosy Mission Australia’s KIT blog at leprosymission.org.au/kit
Personal Induction and Ongoing Support a Winner with PTM Recruits
TravelManagers is a company who values the importance of supporting new recruits by offering an intensive and all-inclusive induction programme that includes training and personal support in all aspects of the business starting from day one.
For newly recruited personal travel managers (PTMs) who join from other travel organisations, getting used to new systems, processes and technology can often be daunting and potentially frustrating but for PTM Michelle McKay representative for Camden Park in South Australia, the induction process proved to be a real winner in more ways than one.
“Induction week in Sydney was great! Draining and definitely ‘brain-stretching’ but great. The national partnership office (NPO) team are absolutely amazing, and I don’t think I have ever been in such an encouraging and helpful environment before.
“Everyone was so warm and welcoming, which helps with the fear factor of starting your own business. Also, super pleased to have had the chance to meet Annabelle my fellow inductee, and have another Adelaide girl to bounce off throughout training. I think I’ve made a friend for life.”
An overriding response from the new recruited personal travel managers was they value the relationships built as well as the practical training sessions and thought provoking interactive discussion that was achieved through face-to-face training.
For McKay, the induction process helped to allay some initial nervousness.
“I’ve never done anything like this before and I was concerned I would have some trouble drumming up initial business. I still have some nerves but after the initial training I came out feeling incredibly supported by the team, and knowing there is always someone to ask for help is incredibly important to me.”

CROATIAN SPECIAL JOURNEYS EXPAND FOR 2018
Croatia specialist, Beyond Travel, has just released its largest collection to date of exclusive Croatian Special Journeys for 2018, after a sell-out season this year. All itineraries come with an Earlybird offer of either Discover More Travel Vouchers or savings when booked and deposited by October 31 or December 29, 2017.
Due to a growth in demand, there has been an increase of 11 departures across the range over these cruise tours, with forward bookings already showing a 100 per cent increase on 2016 to 2017, according to general manager of sales and marketing Mr Bryce Crampton.
Crampton said that although Croatia as a whole has seen substantial growth, it was the popularity of the ‘Special Journey’s’ that prompted them to almost double departures across the range for 2018.
Adding, “These interesting itineraries have been designed to show case the best travel options by land and by sea. The brochure format has also been modernised with improved ship presentation and new benefits and inclusion boxes as easy reference points for agents and their clients.
These unique small group tours have been carefully designed to offer Australian travellers an insight to lesser travelled regions of the world by combining areas of natural beauty and National Parks with in-depth guided tours and a focus on authentic local experiences.
Agents have seen increased interest due to the Special Journeys including guaranteed departure dates as well as offering more personalised inclusions not found on standard tours.
Included in these increases are the 12 departures scheduled for the popular deluxe eight-day ‘Best of Dalmatia’ cruise from Dubrovnik to Split (or reserve) on board the privately chartered MS Equator, which was newly built and launched for the 2017 season, with some departures utilising the 2018 launched MS San Antonio ship. It offers outstanding value at $2695 per person twin share.
Early bird deal for 2018 Venice Carnivale
History, intricate costumes and iconic Vancian masks; Venice Carnivale is one of the world’s most celebrated carnivals and for good reason.
Once a pillar of culture in Venice, the Venetian mask was used to hide ones’ identity in order to indulge in forbidden liberties or separate themselves from restrictions within class, religion or gender. However, in 1979 the use of masks was outlawed and forbidden.
Gradually the tradition reappeared at the direction of the Italian government’s wish to reinstate this unique history and culture of Venice. Today, the carnival is celebrated with a month of activities and attended by approximately 3 million visitors.
During the celebration, both locals and visitors fill the streets in grand costumes, some watching from the sidelines behind expressionless masks; a display that is hauntingly beautiful. There are also a number of masquerade balls, if you are lucky enough to obtain an invite, where guests step back in time.
One of the most iconic events to the carnival is the contest for the most beautiful mask, which is judged by fashion designers from around the world. Additionally, don’t miss the ‘Flight of the Angel’ where an artist makes his decent from St. Mark’s Bell Tower to the Doge’s Palace while suspended in air. This has been adapted from the 16th century when a Turkish acrobat walked on a rope the same route from a boat tied in Riva degli Schiavoni.
To experience the Carnival, Tempo Holidays have released a number of themed packages including a 10% off early bird offer. Venice Carnivale – Carnival Extravagance Masked Ball is a 3 day package over 8-11 Feb 2018 that includes tickets for Carnival Extravagance Masked Ball, Venice sightseeing tour and Gondola ride, and breakfast daily. Prices now start from A$2750//NZ$2940 per person.
Other packages include Venice Carnivale – Ballo Tiepolo (The Grand Venetian Ball), Venice Carnivale – Minuetto at the Ridotto and Venice Carnivale – Last Waltz in Venice; all with costume hire included.
