Catch the “serenity” at Bonnie Doon

Catch the “serenity” at Bonnie Doon

If you’ve ever dreamed of singing “We’re going to Bonnie Doon” (and actually meaning it) then look no further, because Airbnb has delivered the goods.

The Kerrigan’s Bonnie Doon holiday house from the iconic Aussie movie, The Castle, has everything you’ve dreamed about from the 1997 flick: a 60s retro dining table, a front verandah perfect for hanging your bug zapper and, down the gravel path ‘round the back, the iconic pool room.

Cook up some rissoles or cheeky sponge cake in the aqua-coloured kitchen or head out to Lake Eildon for some fishing – but only with a rod you can bend right round on itself.

The lake is perfect for those who own a boat with a two-stroke engine that can cruise on full throttle. Just remember that carp isn’t a good eating fish and search for trout or redfin for a true feast.

The Castle in Bonnie Doon is in regional Victoria (making it perfect for a true blue Aussie road trip) and will sleep up to eight mates or family members at $200 a night.

It also has a BBQ, a fireplace, a kennel for Coco, bunk beds and memorabilia from the movie – and is a little over an hours drive from Mount Bulla for maximum serenity.

Airbnb has over 3000 castle listings, but nowhere can compete with Bonnie Doon.
