Australia’s next top tourism leader

Australia’s next top tourism leader

Australia’s tourism industry is seeking out the the next top tourism leaders to take part in the Australian Tourism Export Council’s 2017 Emerging Leaders of Inbound Tourism Excellence (ELITE) Program.

Gosh, what a title! Also, coincidence it spells ‘ELITE’? We think not.

Following successful programs in 2015 & 2016, ATEC is searching for the next group of individuals who are passionate about the export tourism industry and are looking to build the skills to be a tourism leader of the future.

“The ELITE program provides emerging tourism leaders with a platform to extend their industry knowledge, develop leadership skills and create the relationships that will cement their career,” said ATEC Managing Director, Peter Shelley.

“This program is open to people from across all sectors of the export tourism community – from inbound tour operators, national/state/regional tourism bodies, tourism SMEs, and large national companies, accommodation, transport or touring.”

“We look for a range of skills, experience and knowledge and participants get to work collaboratively on real-world industry opportunities, putting the knowledge they gain into action.

“Participants not only get to enhance their leadership skills, they get the support of a senior industry mentor who has been a long-term leader of tourism exports, providing invaluable guidance and advice along with way,” he said.

Tourism Australia is supporting ELITE for the second year running and have been highly involved across all aspects of the program since its inception with a number of their own emerging leaders taking part in the program.

This year another five TA team members will be chosen to participate as emerging leaders and a number of senior TA staff will act as mentors.

“Our industry has really hit its straps in recent years and I’d argue there’s never been a better time for young people to consider a career in tourism,” TA’s Managing Director, John O’Sullivan said.

“Having witnessed some of our own staff go through the program, and seen the hugely positive impact it has had on their personal and professional development, I can’t recommend this emerging leadership pathway more highly.”

ELITE 2017 invites early to mid-career emerging leaders with two to three years industry experience, to apply for the program.  While there is no age limit for this program, the total intake will be limited.
