Everything’s coming up Qantas today, as the national carrier swoops past Virgin to take the win as Australia’s favourite employer.

Beating hundreds of Aussie employers from the travel industry and beyond, Qantas beat last year’s winner – rival Virgin Australia – followed closely by Victorian Government and the ABC.

Virgin Australia slipped three spots to land in fourth place.

No other travel companies made it into the top 25 list, which is compiled by employment firm Randstad.

The awards, which cover the nation’s 150 largest employers by workforce size and are based a survey of 7795 potential job seekers, named aviation as the most attractive sector for the fourth year in a row, thanks to its financial stability, reputation and travel opportunities.

Unlike other best employer awards, it is ‘the people’s choice’, based on the views of a representative survey pool of general public respondents (aged 18-65) in each of the participating countries.

In Australia, the robust research program is based on the perceptions of over 10,000 members of the general public, designed to uncover how employers are perceived in the eyes of these job seekers and potential employees.

The winner of the award is selected from the 150 largest organisations in Australia, based on employee size.

Per news.com.au, Randstad issued a statement explaining Qantas’ win.

“It’s no surprise that the aviation industry continues to be named the most attractive sector year after year,” Randstad chief executive Frank Ribuot said in a statement.

“Aussies love to travel and working for an airline offers not only the opportunity to travel the world, but also financial compensation and real opportunities for career development.”

Work-life balance was named as the number one consideration for job seekers, followed by job security, a pleasant work atmosphere and career progression.

“Unfortunately, employers aren’t always offering enough balance, which creates a gap between what employees are seeking and what employers are actually offering,” Ribuot added, per news.

“Companies that are able to recognise and bridge the gap will be able to attract and retain the best talent.”
