Antelope Canyon
Arizona, USA
Erosion has naturally led to the smooth, flowing lines that symbolise the sandstone canyons, giving them their unique shape and colour. A photographers dream to photograph!
Lake Hillier
Recherche Archipelago, Western Australia
A bubble gum pink lake, surrounded by a rim of sand and eucalyptus trees. The reason for the pink colour is a mystery, however popular belief says that it’s caused by concentrated salts combined with pink algae and bacteria.
Jaipur
Rajasthan, India
Known as ‘The Pink City’, because the buildings within the walled city are painted pink. This is Rajasthan’s colour for hospitality, and they were painted so for Prince Albert’s visit 1856.
Luoping County
Yunnan, China
Every spring, the fields of the Luoping County become a golden yellow sea of rapeseed flowers, flowing as far as the eye can see. It’s unique climate is perfect for growing rapeseed, or canola flowers, leading to the natural abundance of yellow blossoms.
Izamal
Yucatan, Mexico
The “Yellow City” is one of Mexico’s 35 magical towns, a title celebrating the town’s historical and cultural importance. The town was painted in the same golden yellow as the city’s Convent of San Antonio de Padua, one of the oldest Catholic monasteries in the Americas.
The Tunnel of Love
Klevan, Ukraine
Nestled deep in the forests of Ukraine, this leafy tunnel is used by trains delivering wood to a nearby factory. The tunnel was shaped naturally as vegetation grew around the train’s path, with no official regulations to maintain the trees growth, it was left to the train to carve out its own path.
Tea Plantations
Sri Lanka
The country’s tea plantations sit among lush, green landscapes, pacing over hills between 2,000ft and 6,000ft high. The humid climate is ideal for tea harvesting, with unique microclimates perfect for tea production.
Jodhur
Rajasthan, India
Within the old historic city, the colour of the box shaped buildings creates a sea of blue. An indigo house use to show that a respected religious leader lived there. Today the colour is of less significance and so neighbouring houses are also painted the same colour.
Juzcar
Andalucia, Spain
Originally white washed, this town near Malaga is now painted blue, as the world’s only Smurf Village. Sony had all the houses painted blue for publicity for a new Smurfs film. After, when Sony offered to paint them back, the residents decided to stick with the blue.
The Lavender Fields
Provence, France
Lavender has been grown in the region for over two millenniums. The fragrant lavender fields with their mesmerising shades of violet are a must see in Provence.
Wisteria Flower Tunnel
Kawachi Fuji Garden, Kitakyushu, Japan
These private gardens open to the public twice a year; during maple leaf season in Autumn, and when the wisteria bloom in spring. Flower viewing, hanami, is an ancient Japanese practice.
Salar De Uyuni
Bolivia
With an area of 12,000sq.km, it’s the largest salt flat in the world. This area use to be covered by an ancient salt lake, which is now dried up. Pink flamingos and humming birds are regularly seen around the area.
Santorini
Greece
The milky houses that adorn the Greek island’s hillside have made it one of the most recognisable locations in the Mediterranean. It was first intended to reflect the sun’s heat, but today houses are legally required to be painted white.
Keukenhof Gardens
Amsterdam, Netherlands
It looks like a field of rainbows when over seven million flowers are in bloom. It’s famous for its 800 different varieties of tulip. Today, the Netherlands is the world’s largest producer of flowers.
Cano Cristales
Meta, Colombia
Often referred to as “The River of 5 Colours”, during September and November the river comes alive with a burst of colour. When the river is at a perfect level, a unique plant turns the river bed bright red.
The red floor is complimented by yellow sand, green algae, blue water and many colours in between.
