The safety of a country is one of the top priorities on most travellers list of desirable attributes in a holiday destination. And for good reason!

The World Economic Forum has released its 2017 Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report, and what do you know – Finland has taken out the top spot!

So here’s the rest of the top 10 safest and most secure countries in the world:

  1. Finland
  2. United Arab Emirates
  3. Iceland
  4. Oman
  5. Hong Kong SAR
  6. Singapore
  7. Norway
  8. Switzerland
  9. Rwanda
  10. Qatar

Australia came in at #22, so not as bad as say, Sierra Leone at 131.

Last month the Annual World Happiness Report was released, which ranked 155 countries by their happiness.

“Imagine a ladder, with steps numbered from zero at the bottom to 10 at the top. The top of the ladder represents the best possible life for you and the bottom of the ladder represents the worst possible life for you. On which step of the ladder would you say you personally feel you stand at this time?”

That is the central question asked by social researchers when conducting this study.

Norway took out the top spot, whose people reported feeling an average of 7.54  on the happiness step ladder. Only .02 behind was Denmark, the second happiest country on earth. Australia took out ninth place!

Something interesting t0 note is how three Nordic countries made it into the top 10 safest countries, and five made it into the top 10 happiest countries! They must be doing something right up there….
