How to spend 24 Hours in London

How to spend 24 Hours in London

Today we let you in on our 24 hours of discovery at Mondrian London at Sea Containers.

Mondrian London at Sea Containers is the first hotel to be designed by renowned British designer Tom Dixon, drawing inspiration from American and England, with the transatlantic voyage as the main theme throughout.

Having opened in 2014 after a redesign, the hotel encapsulates the essence of 1920’s cruise ship glamour but with a modern and sophisticated twist.

Sitting on the bank of the River Thames, the hotel plays host to a range of ventures, from Sea Containers Restaurant offering American cuisine with British influences, the award winning Dandelyan Bar with cocktails designed by Ryan Chetiyawardana of Mr Lyan Group and Rumpus Room, an accessible bar on the top floor with panoramic views of the River Thames and the London skyline.

Here is how to spend 24 hours at the  Mondrian London:

Waking up at the Tom Dixon-designed Mondrian London on the city’s eclectic South Bank, guests can start the day well with an indulgent breakfast in bed, tucking into the hotel’s famed avocado on toast and selection of cold-pressed juices while gazing out over the glittering river Thames below. On a warm and sunny day, guests can sit out on the balcony, taking in London’s famous skyline.

Following a lazy breakfast, guests can take the lift down to Mondrian London’s subterranean agua Bathhouse & Spa, to experience a personalised treatment from the spa’s carefully curated menu, filled with authentic and specialist treatments.

After the treatment, guests can slip into the serene spa lounge, where they can totally relax, mesmerised by the sound of water trickling around Tom Dixon’s floor-to-ceiling copper teardrop installation.

Having worked up an appetite, guests can meander along the river to nearby Borough Market, an intricate maze of artisan stalls selling gourmet British and international food and drink. Fringed by other independently-owned coffee shops, restaurants and delis, the renowned local hot spot offers endless choices to its discerning visitors.

Strolling back along the South Bank to the hotel, guests can pop into Tate Modern, checking out the latest exhibition and peering into the new wing designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the Switch House, surveying London from high above.

Back at Mondrian London, guests can catch a film in the hotel’s intimate Curzon cinema, sinking into one of the plush sofas, popcorn in hand from the glass-fronted vintage popcorn cart. The boutique 56-seat cinema is an artwork in itself, with 1970s inspired 3D wall sculptures, soft navy furnishings and authentic brass features salvaged from the original Sea Containers building.

Not to be missed, is a pre-dinner drink in Mondrian’s world-renowned bar, Dandelyan. Headed up by award-winning master mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana, guests can choose a cocktail from the bar’s latest menu ‘The Vices of Botany’, such as the Arsenic Waltz, an expert blend of Tapatio Blanco, sour pear, long pepper and cucumber honey, an emblem of ‘lust’.

Design Research Studio, encompasses the transatlantic essence that runs throughout the hotel.

Situated alongside the river, Sea Containers restaurant at Mondrian London has an energetic feel, with an open kitchen where guests can see all the action. Championing farm-to-table dining and supporting local British suppliers, guests can pick a selection of seasonal dishes from the constantly evolving British-American menu, devised by Head Chef Gus Crosby.

Night owls can continue late into the night at Rumpus Room, Mondrian’s stunning rooftop lounge. Inspired by the 1920s with splashes of hot pink and peacock blue, the space has recently been redesigned by Jacu Strauss, formerly of Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio.

Boasting panoramic views of the London skyline, guests can select a cocktail from Head Barman Idris Conti’s expansive menu, and sway to the soundtrack of Rumpus Room’s resident DJ.
