Meet the hosties on new ‘Travel Guides’ show

For those of us still enjoying Free-To-Air TV (glares at Netflix watchers), then no doubt you’ll have seen at least one ad for the newest Channel Nine show, Travel Guides.

Theseven-part TV series begins tonight at 9pm, and features, among other “travel guides”, a trio of flight attendants to help showcase various destinations over a number of episodes and give feedback on their opinions of the adventures.

And if the teasers are anything to go by, no one group has the same opinion.

The show also features a number of other characters, including cowgirls who’ve never left Australia, bargain hunters and travel snobs.

The show has lined up these Aussies in a Gogglebox-style show where they critique various travel experiences.

The hosties are Chrissy Tyack, 42, from Freshwater, Brookvale’s Mon Hendry, 43, and another friend, so far only known as Cath.

Tyack and her colleagues, per News Corp, work for a major Australian airline (hmm which one could it be?) and will travel to eight different places over the course of the show. First stop, Tokyo.

In a News Corp article, Tyack explained how some of the travellers’ perspectives differed.

“Our opinions were influenced by all the different places we’ve been,” she said.

“It makes us very grateful for what we get to do. ‘It means we want to immerse ourselves in the culture.

“The highlight for me was we arrived in time for Cherry blossom – and we did karaoke which has been edited just enough …”

The trio apparently signed up for the show after the producers spotted them enjoying a few cocktails at Manly Wharf bar and suggested they come and audition.

“The reason we took it is because the three of us absolutely love to travel and an opportunity to travel with your two best friends is just amazing,” Tyack told News Corp.

But being a hostie is not all fun and games, according to Tyack, who said, “We work hard, we work long hours, we have to balance our social lives with our profession and it’s great if you can integrate the two.’’

The show promises to shine a very interesting – and diverse – light on how different people view worldly experiences.

It will no doubt be highly entertaining viewing for travel agents as well.

  • Travel snobs Kevin and Janetta from Victoria
