‘The Chile Experience’: closer to home than you think

‘The Chile Experience’: closer to home than you think

A guided tour aboard the Chilean Naval Ship, Esmeralda, that visited Australia last week, brought home to our shores something to offer every type of traveler.

Travel Weekly joined more than 50 guests from the media and travel industry at Woolloomooloo’s Ovolo Hotel last Friday as part of ‘The Chile Experience’. The tourism event, organised by ProChile, aimed at showcasing the most famous destinations that Chile has to offer.

While those in attendance had the chance to taste fantastic Chilean wines, traditional cuisine and delicious Pisco Sours, perhaps what completed the experience for all guests was a visit from Esmeralda herself: a guided tour with more than 300 sailors and crew on board the iconic Chilean naval-training ship.

“Chile is the only Latin American country that shares a direct air-route with Australia, making it even easier to travel to Chile and explore a destination full of diverse landscapes and exciting adventures,” Trade Commissioner of Chile in Australia, Paula Moreno said, who represented the Tourism Government Agency in charge of the event last Friday.

“We want to bring a piece of beautiful Chile to Sydney, so we invite Australians to come aboard and enjoy this moving experience together.”

The event captured the very essence of South America’s unsung gem, introducing Sydney-siders and the local travel industry to the celebrated people, history and culture of a unique nation.

In 2015, more than 46,000 Australians chose Chile as a travel destination, visiting favourite and contrasting places including the unique Atacama Desert, cosmopolitan Santiago, Valparaiso & the Wine Region as well as remote Patagonia and Antarctica.

After a five-day stopover in Sydney, Esmeralda is scheduled to sail to Auckland in New Zealand and Papeete in Tahiti before returning to Chile.
