What does a USD10,000 a night villa get you?
What does a cool USD 10,000 a night buy you on Indonesia’s scenic Bintan Island, only a 45-minute ferry ride from Singapore?
Enter The Vanda Villa, The Sanchaya’s sublime four-bedroom beachfront presidential suite. It comes with its own around-the-clock personal butler, a chef, infinity pool and separate guest house, to name but a few lavish features.
The Sanchaya’s estate manager Anshuman Narayan says the villa’s clientele, including Middle Eastern royal families, celebrities and wedding parties, appreciate that the 1045 square metre Vanda Villa is just steps from some of the world’s best beachfront.
“Peppered with the occasional cabana, we liken this secluded stretch of beach to The Maldives’ powder white sands and it’s tough to argue the otherwise from the Vanda’s sprawling 90 square metre balcony,” Narayan said.
“Overlooking placid Lagoi Bay’s aquamarine waters and picturesque islands, The Vanda is akin to a friend’s private, luxurious beach house. It makes for a stunning expression of Asian chic.”
The light and airy Vanda Villa is bedecked with neutral, crisp and earthy tones, polished parquet floors, Chinese-style cabinets, and rare pieces of art and furnishings providing glimpses into Singapore’s captivating history and culture.
It takes its namesake from nearby Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda ‘Miss Joaquim’ orchid and draws inspiration from the Lion City’s striking black and white houses, tropical beauty and architectural heritage.
Each of the villa’s four bedrooms boasts king sized beds and open-style, customised en-caustic tiled bathrooms with separate Lefroy Brooks claw-foot baths and showers, and walk-in closets.
Laden with customised bath salts, the claw-foot baths are the backdrop for The Sanchaya’s ‘romantic bath ritual’. Chocolate strawberries and champagne? Cheese and port? Or canapes and single malt or wine? The fun begins selecting which delectable food and beverage coupling to indulge in the bath by candlelight.
Plush Singaporean Ploh bed and bath linen – with 464 thread count Egyptian cotton Percale and premier 650 gram single yarn weave respectively – and a pillow menu offering a selection of European neck, body and reading pillows make for unrivalled comfort.
Bang & Olufsen TV and sound systems, iPads with a wide selection of pre-loaded movies, Apple TV and wifi round out The Vanda’s modern touches. The villa’s complimentary “maxi-bar” items range from local Bintan beer and organic iced green teas to exclusively handcrafted European chocolate.
Wine fridges situated on each of the two levels are stocked with premium champagnes, and red and white wines handpicked by the estate’s Sommelier.
Guests can order their favourite spirit presented in an elegant bar box that includes a shaker, muddler and cocktail recipes, providing the chance for guests themselves to shake the ingredients in the mixer and produce a bespoke cocktail in the privacy of The Vanda.
Private wine and cheese tastings, in-villa massages with your choice of customised chakras oils, and private yoga sessions with the estate’s yoga instructor are also among luxuries easily organized to make you feel right at home.
If guests can manage to pry themselves away from The Vanda’s luxurious clutches, there’s plenty to see and do across the 9.6 hectare Sanchaya estate, designed to meld the elegance of the Orient with European refinement.
Meaning collection in Sanskrit, The Sanchaya’s collection of facilities includes two restaurants and The Bar, a remarkable drinking establishment replete with vintage prints, antique telescopes, porter chairs and other trappings of a 19th Century Explorer’s Club.
Housing birdcage chandeliers, pith helmets and large brown tufted lounges, The Salon and Library is a wine cheese and cigar lounge boasting a vast selection of handpicked books. Decanter, the adjacent space, is a glass-walled library of 400 labels of wine.
The19th century ambiance of the bar, library and salon continues with the grounds, including The Sanchaya’s manicured croquet lawn by the beach, where croquet is paired with tea or Pimm’s and Petanque with pasties and archery with a traditional bow.
