Hot off the heels from hosting Jason Bourne, Aussies flock to Nevada to add star quality to their holidays.

It’s impossible to visit Nevada without taking in a Cirque du Soleil show, but what to do if you’re in Aus? Bring an exclusive performance down under of course!

That’s exactly what the TravelNevada did this week to impress Sydney and Melbourne travel partners and media during their first dedicated sales mission to Australia, hosted in conjunction with Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Cirque du Soleil, Caesars Entertainment and Go Tahoe North. It also marks the first US state Governor to visit the country in over seven years, with Governor Sandoval joining the group.

Aussies taking in the sights and bright lights of Las Vegas, Reno and beyond are on the up and up, with the state of Nevada reporting an 8% increase year on year since 2013, and of the total 1.3 million Australian arrivals into the US in 2014, a whopping 29.4%, or 375,000 travelled to Nevada, making it the fourth most visited state for Aussie travellers, according to Director of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Claudia Vecchio.

“We’re honored to have Governor Sandoval join us for the Australian tourism events.  The Australian market is of great interest to him with Australia being Nevada’s 10th largest market for exports, which were valued at over $104 million in 2015,” Vecchio said.

“Our sales mission is about connecting with the market that supports us so well with tourism visitation.  While Las Vegas continues to be the most popular destination for Australians to visit Nevada visitor trends are showing patterns of Australians branching out beyond the city to enjoy rural Nevada including Highway 50 “The Loneliest Highway in America”, Great Basin National Park, the Gateway to Death Valley National Park, Ghost Towns, Mining Towns, as well-as famous movie sets in the outback or desert regions of Nevada.”

These rural hot spots compliment Nevada’s already well renowned icons like Hoover Dam in the south and Lake Tahoe for its skiing in the north.

The event was also in cooperation with United Airlines who presented prizes for delegates to attend The Governor’s Global Tourism Summit in October in Reno, Nevada and pre-fam trips around the state.
