5 P&O ships meet in Sydney

P&O Cruises has launched a five-ship flotilla this morning in a record-breaking sweep of Sydney Harbour to welcome two new cruise liners.

“P&O Cruises has been sailing from Australia for more than 80 years so we are thrilled to be able to celebrate the expansion of our fleet with so many Sydneysiders today,” Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry said.

“The addition of Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden represents a 50 per cent expansion in our guest capacity and heralds a new look and feel for our cruise line, inspired by modern Australia.”

Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden were named by singer Jessica Mauboy and Kate Ritchie with the christening taking place on Twitter.

While modern social media played a strong role, tradition was upheld with a Champagne bottle broken on the bow.

Whistles were sounded, with five together a wake up call for Sydney-siders. Locals watched from the shore and from boats while 12,000 passengers and staff participated in the occasion.

The five ships will be floating around Sydney Harbour all day with guests set to watch live concerts from 25 singers and musicians from afternoon to night.
