Best value hotel with breakfast destinations

Who doesn’t like breakfast in bed? Well, breakfast at the hotel…

For the first time ever, TripAdvisor has joined up with independent research firm Ipsos to release their inaugural TripIndex Breakfast 2015 cost comparison study.

The study compared the price of an overnight stay in selected hotels with breakfast included, versus an overnight stay at the same hotel with breakfast eaten out locally in 37 key tourism cities around the world.

The study produced a number of findings, including – surprise, surprise – revealing Sydney as the ninth most expensive destination for an overnight stay with breakfast at $367 versus $312 for accommodation only. Hotel guests dining out the morning after saved an average of almost $30.

Here’s what else the study found…

Hotel breakfast vs. breakfast at a local restaurant

The cheapest hotel breakfast can be found in Istanbul (Turkey) at an average price of $8.59 while the most expensive, at an average price of $41.52, is in Zurich (Switzerland).

On the other side of the spectrum, Warsaw (Poland) and Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt) tied for the world champion title of “Cheapest Local Restaurant Breakfast”, both come in at a very affordable $6.52.

The Golden Rule?

For most destinations, travellers looking to save precious pennies should opt for an accommodation-only package.

“Travellers may do better to forego a hotel breakfast in favour of dining out locally in the morning since this is where the biggest savings can be made,” said TripAdvisor’s communications director for apac, Janice Lee Fang.
