Indigo scores ex Intrepid veteran
Luxury design resort Indigo Pearl has announced the appointment of its new Director of Sales and Marketing Anthony Dupont, a worldly Anglo-Frenchman who views challenges as opportunities – a mindset that has taken him to more than 40 countries on three continents and shaped a standout career.
Dupont has joined the five-star leader on Phuket’s quieter northern side at the peak of his powers, having held leadership positions from the start of his career in 1994, when he worked as a Senior Tour Leader for UK-based Explore Worldwide.
Best travel tips earn you $$$
Visit USA has compiled an indispensable guide on travelling in the United States. The Visit USA members, with decades of experience, have contributed snippets of wisdom and crucial tips about travelling in the States for Australian travellers which have been combined into a booklet for travel agents. Access to the downloadable guide is available free of charge, from the Visit USA website now.
To promote the guide, Visit USA is asking travel agents for their own favourite tips for travelling in the USA. The best tip will win its contributor AU$500 cash. To enter the competition consultants can leave their tips on the Visit USA Facebook page and through its Twitter account.
Thailand wows agents
Karen Hitchings from The Unique Tourism Collection and Kerrin Trenorden of Thai Airways partner recently hosted a luxurious famil with Melbourne agents.
The trip took the famil of Melbourne travel agents to Rayavadee in Krabi for an indulgent and educational getaway.
Lufthansa takes agent to the skies
The airline group recently hosted agents in its global mega famil showcasing the new Premium Economy product. Lufthansa sent two agents from Australia to Frankfurt as part of a group of 90 agents from Asia Pacific, including Lizette Braithwaite (further left), a Corporate Consultant for Corporate Travel Management in Brisbane and Brooke Allison (centre at the back), a Travel Specialist with Andrew Jones Travel in Hobart.
They won the competition to travel to Frankfurt to experience the new PE product and were hosted in Frankfurt by Frankfurt Airport and Frankfurt Tourism Board.
APT offers the best
APT is keeping the party going following its recent trifecta of National Travel Industry Awards, launching a marketing campaign that celebrates and publically thanks the travel industry partners, staff, destinations and supporters that have contributed to making #APTtheBest.
As well as a national consumer advertising campaign, APT’s ‘Best’ campaign also includes two exciting new industry incentives which will run throughout September – one for travel agencies and one for the consultants.
Travel agencies will be granted an automatic entry into a special weekly draw for each and every APT booking made and deposited in September. Each weekly winner will receive a $1,500 marketing voucher with APT.
Meanwhile consultants are also invited to join the celebrations, with APT giving away a luxury all inclusive Europe or Mekong river cruise every week to the winning entrant of a special photo competition. To enter, agents simply need to take a photo incorporating the campaign hashtag #APTtheBest and send it, along with an explanation as to why they think APT is the best (must be 25 words or less), to competitions@aptouring.com.au Entries should include entrants’ contact details.
Argentina mission begins down under
One of the largest contingents of Argentine destination management companies (DMCs) is set to meet with Australian wholesalers and incentive operators in Melbourne on 2 September, Brisbane on 3 September and Sydney on 4 September.
The events will provide wholesalers and agents with an opportunity to learn about the incredible tourism experiences on offer from a representative from the Argentina National Institute of Tourism and meet with local operators from Argentina. Aerolineas Argentinas will also be present along with the 12 DMCs.
B2B events will run each day from 2-5pm and the Industry ‘Empanadas and Tango’ event from 6-9pm in each city. Enjoy Argentinean themed food along with a Tango lesson, entertainment and your chance to win a return trip for two to Argentina with Air New Zealand, including ground arrangements.

South Africa stuns agents
The South African dream has come true for 10 lucky agents who were whisked away on a trip of a lifetime thanks to South Africa Tourism and South African Airways after winning their spot on the familiarisation at South Africa’s Road Show events last October.
The 10 agents from varying agencies across Australia and New Zealand were treated to a 13 day trip visiting some of the most scenic and inspiring locations on offer in South Africa.
AAT Kings supports kids
