You guessed it – Bali flights cancelled again

Flights to and from Bali have been cancelled after a volcanic ash cloud from Indonesia’s Mount Raung made conditions unsuitable for flying.

All but four of Virgin Australia’s Monday services have been cancelled and those still scheduled to go ahead in the afternoon are under review.

“We have been advised that Mt Raung continues to erupt and winds are blowing in an unfavourable direction,” Virgin Australia said in a statement.

Jetstar has scheduled seven flights to Denpasar Airport, and five flights from the Indonesian island to Australia on Monday. Five flights have been cancelled.

“We are reviewing options for additional flights from Bali to Australia to get our passengers moving as soon as possible,” Jetstar said.

“Any additional flights will be subject to clear flying conditions and local approvals.”

Mt Raung volcano has played havoc with flights since it began spewing corrosive, silica-based ash in early July.

According to the ABC, Indonesian airline Garuda has not cancelled any services.

The Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre’s Michael Haywood said conditions should improve by Monday afternoon.

“We’ll start to see a wind change this morning but has the day progresses we will definitely see a bit more of a clearance,” he said, per ABC reports.

“So definitely by this afternoon we should see the winds definitely coming from the north pushing ash to the south, into the Indian Ocean.”
