What do young travellers want?

The young folk are looking more to integrate social media into their travel plans, according to the latest research.

Hipmunk’s online travel service has tracked the growing desire of both Millennials and Gen Xers to boost the level of interaction while jetsetting, with 53% of 18-34 year olds saying they would like to connect socially with other passengers while travelling.

Members of the Gen X party pull a further 37% of respondents who would like to be more sociable while travelling, with the survey also highlighting the strong anticipation from Millennials to use in-flight platforms to meet new people.

New social networking site Q2Connect is a fresh solution for agents looking to harness the rapidly growing social media appetite of these demographics, who have a strong presence in the travel scene.

The platform harnesses the power and reach of social media and filters information based on travel details or events allowing the user to see others attending the event, travelling on the same flight or staying at the same hotel.

Q2Connect’s founder and director Peter Mansour said it should be a high priority to cater for these influential travellers.

“Research is demonstrating that the next generation of travellers are embracing social media,” he said.

“We believe there is a gap in traditional social media channels to be used in travel and Q2connect empowers travellers with the ability to connect in a secure environment.  Our site allows users to connect with existing contacts, or see who else is travelling at the same time base on flight, cruise, hotel, conference or event location.”

“Users have complete control over who they connect with weather via the platform or in person. Q2Connect really is a simple and secure way of connecting with friends, networking professionally or as a point of research for travel.”
