Hotel Review: Ulu Ulu National Park Resort

Hotel Review: Ulu Ulu National Park Resort

One speedboat ride up river, a short overland drive, then a scenic long boat trip up another river and you finally arrive at Ulu Temburong National Park Rainforest.

Here nestled on the banks of the Temburong and Belalong rivers, is the eco-style resort, Ulu Ulu National Park Resort.

The adventure of even getting to the resort is an experience itself, however in this enchanting resort set amidst the 50,000 hectares Batu Apoi forest reserve areas, there are even more experiences to be had.

Immersed in nature, Ulu Ulu Resort is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. The resort has 17 rooms of tropical wooden construction, scattered along the river bank, and all connected with a wooden walk way. The Villas and Suites are decorated with charming contemporary furniture mixed with a tropical touch. For comfort each room is equipped with individually-controlled air-conditioning units, ceiling fan, and water heater.

Guests staying at Ulu Ulu National Park Resort enjoy locally prepared meals in the dining room or afternoon tea by the river in a number of dedicated spots set aside with table and chairs. There is a gift shop and conference and meeting facilities. Due to the remote location of the resort, mobile phone reception and internet is limited if available at all.

If staying at the resort was not experience enough, there are a number of activities to really experience the location and all it offers. Those brave enough can embark on a night nature walk. You will experience up close the wonders of the rainforest; listen to the orchestra of nature’s music by the insects, birds and animals, all under the cover of night.

Daytime activities include trek to waterfall, kayaking, tubing down the river, rafting and medicinal walk. The highlight of destination for most however is the canopy walk. Waking at 4:30am you then set off for a jungle trek up some 1000 steps to the canopy walk, just in time for sunrise. The view as the morning mist lifts over the dense canopy of rainforest below is worth the early start and climb. Here you can see birds flying out to feed, hornbills soaring against the skyline and gibbons calling across the treetops.
