Pic credit by Jason Corroto – 26th January 2015, Sydney Harbour - P&O Cruises’ entire fleet of three cruise ships met in Sydney for the first time this morning to form an historic Australia Day display on the harbour. With Pacific Jewel berthed at Athol Bay, Pacific Pearl anchored at Point Piper and Pacific Dawn located off Kurraba Point, the trio of ships offered their 6000 guests a front row seat to Sydney’s Australia Day festivities.

Ceo Ann Sherry, updated staff on “structural changes” as part of the organisation’s “continuing growth” which now includes the promotion of Sture Myrmell as senior vice president for the cruise line, leaving Tammy Marshall out of the business.

Sherry said the move to promote Myrmell to the role and Peter Little to senior vice president fleet operations was part of the cruise line’s bid to “leverage the scale that goes with our being part of a global organisation”.

“As part of this I have reviewed the P&O structure to ensure we have clear accountability and to ensure that we have the right customer-focussed structure as P&O expands to become a five-ship fleet,” she said in an email to staff, Travel Weekly can reveal.

“Peter’s promotion to senior vice president is great news for the business giving him and his team very clear accountability for the P&O fleet and regional support for our brands. The addition of onboard revenue to Peter’s responsibilities brings our business into line with our sister brands in the US.”

“Sture has also been promoted to Senior Vice President as he takes on greater responsibility with the amalgamation of Hotel Operations and Commercial. Combining these vital customer facing areas is an important change in achieving an end-to-end focus on the customer experience, which is so critical to the growth of P&O.”

Sherry said as a result of the promotions, Marshall “will be leaving the business after the completion of projects that are significant in setting P&O up for future growth including the segmentation project”.

“I want to pay particular tribute to Tammy for her contribution in repositioning the P&O brand,” Sherry said.

“Tammy’s time at Carnival Australia has seen the addition of capacity, the development of regional ports, the surge in short-break cruising and, of course, the groundbreaking transition from onboard buffets to pantry-style food court dining.”

Sherry said Marshall’s contribution “enhanced P&O’s position as Australia’s most trusted cruise brand”.

“We are indebted to Tammy for her leadership in P&O’s continuing story of growth, innovation and customer focus,” Sherry said.

Marhsall had been with the company almost 3 years after a long-stint at The Travel Corporation where she held managing director roles at both Contiki and AAT Kings.
