International Art Series to draw more visitors to Sydney

International Art Series to draw more visitors to Sydney
By admin

The Sydney International Art Series 2014-15 will attract visitors from across New South Wales, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, according to Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).

TTF acting chief executive Trent Zimmerman said the Sydney International Art Series is now an important drawcard on the Destination NSW events calendar.

“Events are key drivers of visitation and the fifth Sydney International Art Series will give people yet another reason to visit Sydney and New South Wales,” Zimmerman said.

The Sydney International Art Series 2014-15 features an extensive exhibition of pop art at the AGNSW called Pop to Popism, from November 1 until March 1 2015.

For the first time in the southern hemisphere, the work of Chuck Close will be showcased at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, where the exhibition Chuck Close prints: process and collaboration will feature from November 15 until March 15 2015.

“These exclusive events create interest, help build Sydney’s brand, and give people a reason to visit, providing the catalyst to plan a trip and an activity around which to build an itinerary,” Zimmerman said.

“They also give tourists already planning a visit a reason to extend their trip, generating additional expenditure on accommodation, dining, entertainment, attractions, shopping and transport.”

Tourism generates more than $33 billion in expenditure across New South Wales annually, as well as supporting 270,000 jobs statewide.

With events like the Sydney International Art Series, TTF predicts overnight visitor expenditure will rise to $36 billion a year by 2020.
