Barossa the top spot for Aussie wine lovers

Barossa the top spot for Aussie wine lovers
By admin

Not that it will come as a surprise to many but Australia has been confirmed as a nation of wine-lovers, according to the results of the 2014 Great Vinomofo Wine Census, the country’s largest-ever wine survey.

The inaugural wine census conducted by wine retailer Vinomofo found that 26% of people listed wine as one of their great obsessions, while another 64% said they simply love it.

Australians also prefer home grown wine, with 80% selecting wine from Australia over favoured international regions.

It is no surprise then that Australia’s wine regions are a popular holiday destination, with the Barossa Valley the top spot to get a drop according to the census, with a leading 21% of Aussies noting it as their favourite wine region to travel to.

The dozens of cellar doors to visit and top quality wines have put Margaret River in second place with 13% of Aussies naming it their favourite wine region to visit.

McLaren Vale, the Hunter Valley and the Yarra Valley respectively took the remaining spots in the top 5 wine regions of Australia.

The survey also found that Riesling was the most popular white among wine fans, with Pinot Noir growing in popularity.
