Air NZ becomes first airline to take delivery of Boeing 787-9
By admin

Air New Zealand has become the first airline to take delivery of the Boeing 787-9 at an event attended by international media in the USA.

More than one thousand Boeing employees joined the airline’s representatives, VIP guests and media to celebrate the handover of the aircraft at the Future of Flight museum near Seattle.

Media guests made the trip to the event from as far away as New Zealand, Australia, China and Japan, while American country band, The Band Perry, entertained the crowd.

Air New Zealand chief executive Christopher Luxon said the delivery of the Boeing 787-9 is the start of a new era for the airline and its customers.

“It’s a privilege to be the global launch customer for this aircraft and our team is looking forward to flying it home to New Zealand,” Luxon said.

Air New Zealand’s first 787-9 is designed in the distinctive black uniform of the airline, and will depart for Auckland following a showing to international media and travel trade partners.

The aircraft is the first of ten 787-9 Dreamliners to join Air New Zealand’s fleet, and will operate the Auckland to Perth route from October 15.

The schedule will expand to include Shanghai and Tokyo later this year.

“The 787-9 is a real game changer,” Luxon said. “We can’t wait for our customers to experience it.”
