Thailand as ‚Äúin demand as ever”: AirAsia X
By admin

AirAsia X has insisted that Thailand remains popular with Aussies despite ongoing political unrest, as it reported a surge in local sales of long-haul sectors.

Thailand’s military took control of the country’s administration in late May, with travellers warned to exercise a high degree of caution as a curfew was put in place.

However, the situation has not deterred Aussie travellers, according to AirAsia X head of international marketing Stuart Myerscough.

“Thailand is by far our most popular onward destination for Aussies and despite recent political instability it remains as in demand as ever,” he said.

“Other destinations showing huge growth include Japan, Korea and Taiwan and interest is growing to newer routes in our network, Colombo and Kathmandu.”

The low cost carrier operates from six Australian ports. It recently boosted flight frequencies to Kuala Lumpur from Melbourne, Sydney and Perth to double daily, with Adelaide and Gold Coast services rising to five and seven per week respectively.

The routes are “exceeding expectations”, Myerscough revealed as he launched AirAsia's first Australian “megasale” with 2.5 million discounted airfares on offer for travel in 2015.

He cited a growth rate of 72% in Australian sales of long haul sectors from Australian ports between the first quarter of 2013 and the second quarter of 2014.
