App addresses staff shortages in hospitality sector
By admin

A new mobile application is helping hospitality businesses address their labour needs with the offer of flexible hours staff accessible at the click of a button.

The app, entitled Workible, launched just two months ago but has already signed up major hospitality players such as Sofitel Wentworth and Merivale thanks to its fast growing database of students and working holidaymakers.

“We’ve only been going for two months and we already have 3000 in our database,” founder and director Fiona Anson told Travel Today. “We’re getting between 100 and 200 new candidates a day.”

The result of 12 months of research and development, the app addresses the need to keep topping up supplies of high turnover staff that hasn’t been properly served by jobs boards, according to Anson.

“It’s quite frequent for staff members in these industries to decide they’re not going to come in tomorrow because they are going backpacking with a mate,” Anson explained. “But using the app, they can tap into a pool of skill specific industry experienced and available staff at the time that they need them.”

The company has partnered with education providers, TAFE, hotel schools among others to help their students get work. However, it is also targeting international travellers able to work in Australia.

“Hospitality businesses like to have people from around the world – travellers often have good skills because they have done a lot of hospitality work,” Anson said.

Workible also serves employers in a range of other sectors including retail, with subscribers to the service paying a monthly fee to access candidates in an unlimited way.
