Melbourne lures visitors by remote control
By admin

A new initiative from Tourism Victoria gives those considering a visit to Melbourne the opportunity to explore the city virtually, by remote controlling tourists on the ground then watching their experiences online.

From today until October 13, two Melbourne “Remote Control Tourists” will be fitted with helmet-mounted cameras, microphones, GPS tracking devices and live-streaming technology to become extensions of members of the public who will steering their every move by placing requests at www.remotecontroltourist.com.

The aim of the project, the latest phase of the Play Melbourne campaign, is to provide an “engaging, first person perspective” of the city's established tourists sites along with its lesser known attractions.

“This world-first campaign is all about giving people new reasons to come and experience the latest and greatest our city has to offer, by introducing it them virtually first,” state minister for tourism Louise Asher said.

“Through the actions and interactions of the Remote Control Tourists, our online audience will have the chance to connect with their curiosity and unpeel the layers of our creative and surprising city where the deeper you go, the more you will find and the better the reward.”
