Trust top of mind for agents when selling insurance

Trusting that an insurance provider will protect their customers is the most important consideration for agents when selling a policy, SureSave has revealed following an Australia-wide research project.

The insurance firm has interviewed more than 420 agents over the last two months in order to gain insights into how they sell travel insurance with the findings expected to form the basis of the company’s future direction.

“The questions covered all areas including, how they prefer to conduct business with their travel insurance provider, if they receive enough information in a timely manner, and what types of cover will help sell more policies," executive general manager Michael Callaghan said.

He reported an “incredible” response rate with feedback yielding some valuable insights.

"Our research revealed that one of the most important things agents must have, is trust that an insurance provider will look after their customer, so we are currently investing in new and unique ways to deliver this to them," he said.

Systems-based solutions are proving increasingly in demand with agents compared with other insurance channels such as credit cards which were identified as a “leading cause of concern” for agents.

In addition, it found that 60% of travel agents sell travel insurance policies to more than 50% of their customers. Of those, over half stated they are able to achieve a conversion rate of more than 75%.

“That's impressive, but we also want to help agents raise the bar even further,” Callaghan said.

He underlined SureSave's commitment to adapt to the changing needs of agents with a range of "innovations" to be launched later this year.
