Tourism Accommodation Australia underlined the strength of the New South Wales accommodation industry as 600 industry representatives gathered in Sydney for the annual state Awards of Excellence.

NSW premier Barry O’Farrell opened the 16th event, acknowledging the vital role of accommodation and service to the state’s tourism industry.

TAA (NSW) chair highlighted the strength of the sector and said the calibre of the award winners was an indication of “considerable investment” over the last few years.

“The high quality of the customer service finalists in particular bodes well for the future of the accommodation sector in this state,” he said.

The winners included:

Regional Deluxe Accommodation of the Year – Lilianfels Resort & Spa

Redeveloped Accommodation Hotel of the Year – Parkroyal Darling Harbour

Outstanding Community Achievement Award – Sydney Boulevard Hotel

Function Venue of the Year – Hilton Sydney

Concierge of the Year – David Patt of the InterContinental

Front of House Employee of the Year – Andrea Donaghy of the Fairmont Resort MGallery

Employee Excellence in Service – Maria Macri-Nosari

 Outstanding Achievement in Training – Hilton Sydney

Sheraton on the Park – Workplace Health and Safety Hotel of the Year

Hotel Industry Rising Star – Timothy Hunt of Park Hyatt Sydney

Housekeeper of the Year – Shirley Delaberbis of Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley

Bar of the Year – Grain at Four Seasons Hotel Sydney

Metro Restaurant of the Year – Altitude Restaurant at Shangri-La Hotel Sydney

Chef of the Year – Bo Ip Sorenson at Shangri-La Hotel Sydney
