Silky Oaks ramps up luxury focus

Silky Oaks ramps up luxury focus
By admin

Tropical North Queensland’s Silky Oaks Lodge will continue to scale down the property as it seeks to boost its luxury proposition.

The lodge, located downstream from the Mossman Gorge, now has 35 rooms following a three-year renovation process started by the Van Mins when they acquired the property in 2009.

“It once had 60 rooms, but we felt a lot of those weren’t right,” operations manager, Sharada Van Min, told Travel Today.

“We’re trying to bring it down even more. We don’t want people fighting for the experience.”

Two larger Billabong Suites were added last year with a new family suite also on the cards.

“There had been no money invested in the property for 10 years,” Van Min said. “It’s not been an easy road but it’s really starting to pay off.”

She revealed the average stay at Silky Oaks has risen from two to four days, boosted by an all-inclusive five-day package priced at $5000 per couple, still available.

In addition, Van Min reported strong bookings for the year to date with the property continuing to prove popular with the honeymoon market particularly from the US and Europe.

Chinese travellers are also starting to venture to the property in small numbers, she added.
