A woman set off alarm bells at Munich International Airport last week when authorities found human remains in her suitcase.
The 74-year-old Armenian woman was detained by airport officials after human bones including a skull were found in a wooden box in her suitcase, according to Deutsche Welle.
The officials called in customs officers, a doctor and a public prosecutor to find out why the woman was in possession of the bones.
Following interrogations, police found that the woman was trying to fly the remains of her dead husband from her home in Greece to be laid to rest in Armenia, where he was originally from.
The woman, who was travelling with her 52-year-old daughter, had flight stopovers in Munich and Kyiv before reaching her destination.
Authorities found the transfer of human remains to be lawful and the public prosecutor found no grounds for a criminal investigation.
Documents the two were carrying revealed the woman’s husband died in 2008 and was initially buried near their home in Thessaloniki.
