The Royals get a waxy makeover in Sydney for King Charles’ coronation

In the regal presence of Queen Victoria’s statue, Madame Tussauds Sydney has revealed the brand new wax figure of King Charles III.

The King’s figure will take its place as head of the royal family in attraction, three days ahead of the coronation of His Majesty The King.

The only King Charles III wax figure outside of the United Kingdom was announced by a town crier and revealed to special guests dressed in their finest, during a grand ceremony, at the Queen Victoria Building forecourt, Sydney.

Guests, including the wax Prince and Princess of Wales on the red carpet, were entertained with a Changing-of-the-guards show and performance from Sydney Bagpipers. Wax Harry was spotted some distance away in the crowd, while Meghan was notably absent.

“What fun to have attended the royal reveal today. Although I wasn’t invited to the coronation, this had to be the next best thing. The resemblance is startling. I wasn’t sure if I should curtsey when I approached the King’s wax figure,” joked Ron Arosa, a guest attending the ceremony.

From 4th May, wax King Charles III will join Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton of Wales in the newly refreshed Royal Academy, an interactive experience ‘fit for a King’!

Complete with brand new regal theming including a throne and sceptre, visitors to the attraction will be able to brush up on their royal etiquette and feel as if they have stepped inside the royal palace alongside His Majesty King Charles III.

Queen Elizabeth II will continue to hold a place in the Darling Harbour attraction’s World Leader zone. Harry and Meghan can be found in the A-Lister zone.

“As the new head of the Monarchy, we’re very excited to give a royal welcome to the wax figure of King Charles III,” Mikayla McGlone, operations manager at Madame Tussauds Sydney, said.

“The likeness is incredible, I can’t wait to see the response from fans, who have been requesting his figure joins our royal setting for years.

“The 18th century French artist, Marie Tussaud aka Madame Tussaud, had a very strong connection to the royal family, from her time sculpting their wax figures. During the French Revolution, when the royals were sent to the guillotine, this tie with them nearly cost her her head also. She was however recognised for the importance of her artistry and spared!”

The journey of wax King Charles III started taking shape nine months ago in the Madame Tussauds London studios. His figure stands in one of Charles’ signature poses, hands clasped behind his back, ready to greet his subjects.

His look was inspired by the outfit worn during a visit to Farm ED, a not-for-profit organisation, in the Cotswolds, on 22 June 2021.

His suit, a single-breasted grey Prince of Wales check suit with the middle of three buttons closed, was custom-made by the King’s tailors; Anderson & Sheppard, based on Saville Row, London.

Worn over a lilac shirt, custom-made by the King’s shirtmakers; Turnbull & Asser, with oxblood leather oxford dress shoes, and accessories; a purple patterned necktie and pocket square, an off-white flower lapel pin and cufflinks, all custom made and designed, and inspired by the originals.
