Midweek Interview with Sarah Winters of North Lake Tahoe Resort Association
Leisure sales director Sarah takes some time to talk entrepreneurial spirit and getting Lake Tahoe on the map.
The challenge for the industry is… staying relevant to different industries. Travel is subjective and varies across cultures, but it is important to keep up on travel trends and be as welcoming of a destination as you can be.
The things I like about my job… Working in a community surrounded by entrepenurs and visionaires that are helping to create a solid economic structure and helping to build a name for North Lake Tahoe. I also love being able to work in an industry that feeds my passion, exploration. There is nothing better than exploring somewhere new in the world.
And the frustrations are… wanting North Lake Tahoe instantly on the map for all travelors. I understand it takes time, but it is a must see place and I am eager for people to experience all of its beauty.
If I didn’t work in travel… I would be back in event planning. I love the excitement.
Favourite airline? Jetblue, I love their amenities. However, I have to say Southwest Airlines has the most hiliarous staff around. I have had some belly laughs on those flights!
My proudest moment was… becoming a director by the time I was 30! I love my career and I am so excited to be a part of the North Lake Tahoe team.
The naughtiest thing I ever did… is top secret! I can’t have the world knowing my deepest and darkest…
I try to relax by… going to yoga.
The last time I feared for my life was… on my first travel trip abroad. Flying from London to Ireland we were descending and all of a sudden our heads flew back and we were taking off again. Not knowing what was happening was terrifying!
If I can, I always try to avoid… traffic of any kind. Exactly why I left the city of Boston for the mountains of Tahoe!
I really wish I had the ability to… teleport. I would be on a new continent each day!
The best advice I’ve ever received was… from my favorite person in the world, my Grandma Shirley. She said there is always a rainbow after the rain. There is truly always something to be grateful for.
I don’t understand why… people check luggage. Carrying on is the key to easy travel!
My greatest weakness is… trying to remain present and actively listening to others. We are always one step ahead, we all have to learn to slow down.
And my greatest strength is… relationship building. It is why I have the career I have now and why I have amazing friendships all over the globe!
If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would… buy a home big enough to have family and friends visit as often as they would like. Being from the east coast, I always welcome as many visitors as I can to the west coast.
If I was President I would… fight the trafficking of women and children. It is shameful!
If I could be someone else for one day I would be… a man. Wouldn’t it be fascinating to see the inside of a male brain for the day!
I’ve always wanted to travel to… Croatia! It is next on my list.
My favourite vacation was… Oh, this is a hard one. I love everywhere I have visited. I would say my favorite trip was to Thailand because it was my bucket list destination and it was all I dreamed it could be and more. It is also where I discovered my newest passion, scuba diving!
