Quest joins Christchurch recovery

Quest joins Christchurch recovery
By admin

The severe room shortages that have affected Christchurch since the 2011 earthquake struck the city look set to lessen as properties steadily reopen their doors, with Quest Serviced Apartments the latest to return to business.

The 70-apartment property welcomes its first guests today following a $20 million repair and refit to remedy cosmetic damage inflicted by the quake.

Quest New Zealand chief executive Stephen Mansfield identified the lack of accommodation has a major obstacle to the recovery of tourism in the destination.

"It's also placed restrictions upon the business travel that's needed to support the rebuild," he said. "The reopening of Quest Christchurch is a shot of confidence for the city as every available hotel bed will encourage people back to visit or to do business.

He reported a "steady stream" of bookings and inquiries from both business and leisure travellers.

In addition, the property's location close to the Cathedral Junction atrium, to open later this month, and its new convention centre will enhance its appeal, according to franchise director Bess Thomson.
