From November 2 to 8, the Canadian province of Manitoba will host Polar Bear Week, with global viewers tuning in via social media to watch real-time activity of the polar bears in their migration across the Canadian Arctic.

Created by Explore.org, Frontiers North Adventures and Polar Bears International, the initiative uses non-stop coverage of the polar bears’ journey on social media to build awareness of the challenges of climate change for the species.

G Adventures has been named Australasia’s Leading Tour Operator for 2014 at the 21st World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony, held at a red carpet event in New Delhi last night.

The adventure tour company came in ahead of other well-known companies in the region, with duchess of delegation for G Adventures Australia and New Zealand Belinda Ward saying the team “works hard to offer the best experience for our travellers.”

Phil Hoffman Travel has announced it has become accredited under the AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme (ATAS), with the belief that it will help secure future travel partnerships and clients for agents.

 

Rail Plus has named Sydney travel agent Chris Wilde as the 2014 ‘Dux’ of its Global Rail Expert program, making it the second year in a row that a Flight Centre Warringah Mall member has won the title.

A group of 50 agents were invited to take part in this year’s program, with Wilde topping the class by scoring 100% in each of the 10 training modules over the 10-week period, and winning a $500 gift voucher and a spot on a famil to France and Germany.

Worldwide Cruise Centres has created a new 26-day fly, cruise and tour holiday called ‘Alaskan Glaciers and Rockies Adventure’, which includes an Alaska cruise aboard Coral Princess, a rail journey on the Rocky Mountaineer train, and stays at Princess Wilderness Lodges.

When booked before November 20, travellers receive an additional night in Calgary and an additional night in Vancouver for free, worth up to an extra $500 per couple.

Travel agents still have two weeks to take advantage of APT’s SuperDeal savings, with free return flights to Europe being offered through the incentive.

Agents have until October 31 to book their clients onto a number of cruises such as the 15-day Magnificent Europe luxury river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest, in order to be in the running to win.

Air Tahiti Nui has extended the sale and travel period of its current $150-off deal on selected fares, including airfares from Australia to Tahiti.

On sale until November 25 2014, the travel period has also been extended to September 30 2015, with Air Tahiti Nui offering three weekly services from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to Tahiti via Auckland.

As of next week, Adventure Tours Australia (ATA) is providing the option to start and finish its three-day Uluru Explorer trip in Ayers Rock rather than Alice Springs, allowing travellers to utilise more affordable flights to Yulara.

The tour would cut out the five and a half hour commute from Alice Springs, forgoing the early morning start and night’s pre-accommodation, giving travellers more time to explore the Red Centre.

Australian residents will be invited to win an exclusive foodie experience with ex-MasterChef contestant Ben Milbourne following the launch of “The Ultimate Flavours of Tassie Experience” competition by Spirit of Tasmania.

The experience includes breakfast for two at Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm, a tour and tasting hosted by Milbourne of four north-west coast producers, and a three course dinner cooked by Milbourne himself, as well as transport and accommodation.

Nevada has welcomed same sex couples after the ban on same sex marriage was deemed unconstitutional last week, with a number of festivals being held such as The National Coming Out Day Festival in Reno, and a range of hotels and attractions supporting the move.

In Las Vegas, MGM Resorts’ including ARIA, Mandalay Bay, New York-New York and Luxor celebrated as the first wedding licenses were issues in Clark County on The Strip.
