Aussies not deterred by Thailand unrest

Thailand has produced strong visitor arrival numbers from Australia despite the recent political unrest in the country.

Statistics released this week by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) for the period January to May 2014 show the country’s resilience as Australian visitor arrivals actually increased to 353,044 for the period.

Tourism Authority of Thailand director Australia, Numfhon Boonyawat, extended her thanks to the local travel industry for its continued support of the destination.

This support combined with shrewd marketing tactics and an ongoing feed of positive media activity has delivered on all fronts, evident by the steady flow of Australian visitors into the destination, Boonyawat said.

Now the situation has calmed across the entire country, and particularly in Bangkok, Boonyawat added that Thailand would again enjoy the benefits of increased Australian visitation as the year progressed.

“Australia may not represent the biggest international market to Thailand but it has always remained one of the most resilient,” Boonyawat concluded.
