Etihad to operate daily non-stop from Brisbane

Beginning June 1 2015, Etihad Airways will operate non-stop daily flights between Brisbane and Abu Dhabi.

The United Arab Emirates national carrier will service these flights with the new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which features its new First Suite, Business Studio and Economy Smart Seat

Replacing the current daily one-stop services, which operate via Singapore with a two-class Airbus A330-200 aircraft, the new non-stop flights mean travellers from Brisbane will be able to experience First Class on flights to Abu Dhabi for the first time ever.

Commenting on the new flights, Etihad president, James Hogan, said the introduction of non-stop flights was in response to strong demand for travel on the Brisbane-Abu Dhabi sector and beyond to the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

“The introduction of the first ever daily non-stop service between Brisbane and Abu Dhabi enables us to build on the route’s robust performance by offering our strongest customer proposition yet – an enhanced onboard experience, shorter travel times, and the convenience of one-stop connectivity to popular destinations in the Middle East, Africa and Europe,” Hogan added.

The ability to fly non-stop from Abu Dhabi to Brisbane also means a major aviation boost for inbound tourism, according to Tourism Australia managing director, John O’Sullivan.

O’Sullivan said the move to a daily direct service is great news, saving time and reducing hassle for thousands of international travellers, particularly from Europe, wishing to visit Australia.

“The partnership we’re building with Etihad, and also with its Australian airline partner Virgin Australia, is highly valued and one which we are extremely keen to see grow, built upon an expanding international network and excellent domestic connections beyond gateways airports such as Brisbane to destinations across the rest of our great country," O’Sullivan continued.

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman also welcomed the move to a direct service, describing it as a huge show of confidence by Etihad in the Brisbane and Queensland market.
