World Nomads announces 4 global scholarships for travel content creators

World Nomads has partnered with NOMADasaurus, Sony, and RØDE microphones to offer budding content creators the chance to win one of four Travel Content Creator Scholarships.

The new global scholarship will give content makers the opportunity to show off their best content on a global platform and learn how to sharpen their skills, gain experience and access opportunities with World Nomads and beyond.

The scholarship, open until 16 October, offers one-on-one mentoring from top travel-content creators NOMADasaurus, professional-standard gear from Sony and RØDE microphones, and US $2,500 ($3,844) in trip funding to create content on assignment for World Nomads.

World Nomads general manager for the Americas and global marketing and brands, Christina Tunnah, said World Nomads is delighted to support the next generation of content makers.

“We’re excited to find some special individuals with a passion for travel, filmmaking, writing, and photography,” Tunnah said.

“Our scholarship program has been running for 16 years. It reflects the World Nomads community and its drive for capturing the great stories of the host communities in which they travel,” she said.

Past scholarship winners have gone on to have major careers in travel content, including Australia’s NOMADasaurus co-founder and CEO Jarryd Salem, who went through the program in 2014 and has returned to mentor this year’s winners.

Jarryd Salem said he’s often asked about the turning point for his platform, and when he went from amateur travel blogger to professional.

“I can confidently say that it started one evening in Pai, Thailand, by putting together an entry for the World Nomads’ Travel Writing Scholarship,” he said.

“As I look back on the growth and success of NOMADasaurus and our personal brands, I hand on my heart attribute where we are today to winning the World Nomads Scholarship in 2014.”

This year the four winners will learn new skills across three disciplines – filmmaking, writing and photography alongside the business expertise needed to succeed in the creator economy.

To enter, and be in the running to win more than US$5,000 ($7,689) in prizes to help kick-start their careers, applicants must provide a link to a public post of their best travel content

Winners will have their content shared on World Nomads’ social, email, and website channels, allowing them to reach a large global audience and gain access to further opportunities.
