Aussie tourism legend, Bill King passed away on Tuesday night in Melbourne aged 92.

Bill King

King was a true pioneer of Australian tourism as we know it, putting outback travel on the map for both domestic and international travellers with his business Bill King’s Northern Safaris, which eventually became AAT Kings in 1980.

King developed outback tours that took urbanites off the beaten track in his trademark custom 4WD vehicles and had an understanding and respectful inclusion of First Nations tourism that was ahead of his time.

“The respect King had for the land, its people and his sense of adventure are a great legacy and one that AAT Kings continue to honour,” AAT Kings said in a statement.

AAT Kings expressed their sadness at this great loss and passed on condolences to his family and friends.
