Julie Primmer resigns from AFTA board ahead of election results

After more than 10 years serving as a director of AFTA’s board, Julie Primmer resigned on Thursday afternoon.

The news came ahead of the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) board elections results, which are expected to be revealed today.

Primmer, who is the general manager for branded and associated networks at Helloworld, was one of eight candidates running for the six open vacancies.

“It’s been an honour to have been part of the AFTA Board over these past ten years,” Primmer said.

“There have been some vigorous conversations during that time, but it’s always been clear that we are united in our focus of making a difference for AFTA’s members through a sustainable peak industry body, with an eye on the priorities that matter.”

Speaking on behalf of the board and AFTA members, AFTA chair Tom Manwaring thanked Primmer for her tireless contribution and active participation as a director since her election in 2012.

“These past ten years have presented us with challenges we never anticipated and, as a Board, we have worked hard to ensure AFTA delivers for all members even during the toughest of times,” Manwaring said.

“Julie has been a strong advocate for small- and medium-sized travel businesses ensuring AFTA and ATAS continue to have strong relevance to AFTA core constituency.”

The association has been undergoing a few big changes lately, renaming its accreditation scheme to drop the reference to its name.

The ATAS acronym was changed from AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme to the Australian Travel Accreditation Scheme.

ATAS has also recently undergone an independent review to ensure the scheme reflects the current landscape of post-pandemic travel.
