“Beautiful one day, beheadings the next”: former Bachelorette slammed over Saudi sojourn

Former Bachelorette star Georgia Love has landed herself in hot water online for holidaying in Saudi Arabia.

This week, Love took to Instagram to share her trip to Saudi Arabia, a country currently governed by an autocratic regime.

Love wrote on her Instagram, “After only opening to tourists in 2019, we can’t state how excited we are to be among the first Aussies to tour Saudi.

“To us, it is important to see, experience and learn about all cultures around us and to see how much and how fast our world is changing. We can’t wait to bring you along on this incredible experience with us.”

However, Love was instantly met with backlash; after all, Amnesty International recently reported the country performed a mass execution of 81 men just last week.

Basically, the holiday Love showcased on her Instagram is currently making headlines for human rights abuses.

Naturally, Twitter weighed in.

“Now the world is opening up again you might choose the Eiffel Tower, Edinburgh Castle or The Acropolis but Georgia Love is pushing Saudi Arabia,” Entertainment reporter Peter Ford said in a tweet.

“Sorry Georgia but ‘Chop Chop Square’ -where woman and gays are executed- just doesn’t do it for me in the same way.”

Retweeting a GB News report about the aforementioned mass execution, Ford continued: “This is the country Georgia Love accepted a free trip to visit. Of the 81 you can be sure there is a disproportionate number of women, gays & possibly journalists.”

“Did you really need a freebie trip that badly Georgia?”

Ford later reported that Love had deleted all the content from her trip, advising her to leave the country ASAP.

“Not playing by the rules (especially as a woman) can result in a visit to Chop Chop Square! Run Georgia run,” he said.

Twitter user Anth W. (@anth0888) pointed out that Love’s content looked like an “influencer paid trip” that Love had failed to disclose as sponsored content.

However, the general sentiment was summed up most succinctly by Rachael (@rachaelhasideas):

Love’s manager told Confidential the ‘Saudi tourism people’ told the former Channel 7 reporter to remove all the posts.

“They were fantastic with her,” Love’s manager said.

“They were quite upset that she was getting a lot of negative reaction and they said, ‘We don’t want this to impede on your trip so please remove all those posts and don’t do any more posting’.

“They were very sympathetic to her situation and said, ‘Remove the posts, we don’t require you to do any more posting for us.”
