“Adios amigos”: Another Aussie wholesaler closes its doors

The heavy impact of COVID-19 continues to be felt by the travel industry, with yet another Australian wholesaler shutting up shop.

Ibertours Travel was established 30 years ago by director John Ford in Melbourne, specialising in in-depth creative and cultural trips to Spain, Portugal and Morocco – also known as ‘The Iberia Triangle’.

According to the wholesaler’s website, Ibertours was the sole representative in Australia and New Zealand for Paradores of Spain and Pousadas of Portugal. Both suppliers incorporate a range of historic buildings around the two countries that have been restored into unique hotels.

Ibertours was also an official Australian and NZ representative for Rusticae, which offers accommodation in the form of rustic and rural farmhouses and estates.

The wholesaler’s closure was announced recently in a statement on its website, which praised the staff as Ibertours “greatest asset”.

“It is with sadness that we have made the difficult decision to say ‘adios amigos’ as we close our company this year,” the statement reads.

“Gracias, obrigado, merci to you all, for your support and so many years of wonderful memories.”

The closure of Ibertours comes not long after the Australian arm of global wholesaler Nexus Holidays was placed into administration.
