‘Take a Mate to WA’: Tourism WA and Qantas team up for major marketing push
Travellers from Australia’s eastern states are being encouraged to take advantage of some special Qantas airfares and ‘Take a Mate to WA’ through a major marketing partnership.
Tourism WA has teamed up with Qantas for the initiative, which will give people the chance to fly return to Perth for $299 per person from Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne, when booking a return economy flight for two or more passengers (minimum total price $598).
As an added incentive, people booking WA accommodation through Qantas Hotels will receive triple Qantas Points during the flight sale period.
Here are a few ideas for how your clients can make the most of the promotion and have a Perth adventure this winter:
Stay at new hotels in Perth city, Fremantle and Rottnest Island
In recent years, Perth has seen the opening of many new hotels, including names such as COMO The Treasury, Crown Towers, DoubleTree By Hilton, QT Perth, The Ritz-Carlton, Tribe and Aloft – all offering a range of in-house experiences such as signature restaurants, events, high teas, rooftop bars and wellness centres.
Since October 2020, the city has welcomed the brand new DoubleTree By Hilton Perth Waterfront, Vibe Hotel Subiaco, Warders Hotel in Fremantle and Samphire Rottnest at Perth’s island playground, as well as a $42 million refurbishment of the Parmelia Hilton.
Visit the new WA Museum Boola Bardip
The spectacular new WA Museum Boola Bardip opened at the Perth Cultural Centre in November 2020, following an extensive four-year redevelopment.
Created with a ‘people first’ approach, the new museum is the gateway to explore all of WA, with state-of-the-art technology and innovative display methods.
Boola Bardip means ‘many stores’ in Whadjuk Nyoongar language, the country on which the museum sits, and woven throughout the museum are the stories and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
With the new build almost four times bigger than the previous WA Museum, there’s nearly 6,000 square metres of gallery space.
Across its five levels, the new museum features eight permanent galleries, each with its own distinct theme and content, which has been developed in consultation with around 54,000 people from across WA.
Experience the Matagarup Zip+Climb and HALO Roof Climb at Optus Stadium
Situated on the Swan River, the Burswood Peninsula is another part of Perth which has had a huge makeover, with the latest adventures based around Optus Stadium as the centrepiece.
The bridge climb – operated by Matagarup Zip+Climb – is officially open, and once at the top, visitors can admire the 360-degree views from a 72-metre-high platform. Climbs operate during the day, at sunset and even during a full moon!
The zip-line experience is on its way, which will send adventure seekers 400 metres across the Swan River to Burswood Park.
Meanwhile, at Optus Stadium, visitors can get behind-the-scenes on a stadium tour or see it from above on the stadium’s brand new rooftop experience – HALO.
Your clients will be able to watch their favourite sport or see the sights of Perth 42 metres above the turf at Optus Stadium. With AFL games and the Bledisloe Cup scheduled for this year, and Game II of State of Origin locked in for 2022, there has never been a better time to experience game day at the world’s most beautiful stadium.
Get on the Swan River
There’s a bunch of new ways for visitors to experience Perth’s Swan River, thanks to the introduction of two new waterbike tours: Perth Waterbike Adventures, which depart from Matilda Bay; and Perth Waterbike Co, departing from South Perth.
Guests can safely pedal and glide across the Swan River, with a range of different tours on offer.
Are your clients looking for something less active? Check out Gondolas On The Swan, Little Ferry Co, Wild West Charters, Adventure Charter Group and Captain Cook Cruises, which all operate a range of tours taking in the best of the city, river, Swan Valley and surrounds.
Further afield, GoGo Active Tours’ offer a new ‘Cliffs and Caves Kayak’ tour, which paddles along the riverbanks and cliff face of East Fremantle and Bicton Bay.
New places to eat and drink
Perth’s laneway bars, underground venues and rooftops continue to transform.
Some of the city’s newest hotels are also home to some of the most talked-about restaurants, such as Hearth at The Ritz Carlton, Santini Bar & Grill at QT Perth and Wildflower at COMO The Treasury, while other new and trending dining options include Fleur, Double Rainbow, Le Rebelle, Coogee Common, Ten Acre Block, Wines of While and Cooee.
The city’s rooftop bars pack all the winter vibes, with brand new venues including 18 Knots at DoubleTree by Hilton Perth Waterfront and Storehouse at Vibe Hotel Subiaco.
Perth’s status as a brewery hotspot has also enhanced with new mega-venues at Bailey Brewing Co in the Swan Valley wine region, as well as Running with Thieves and Calamity’s Rod in Fremantle, the home of Australian craft beer.
Take a day trip
Within 30 minutes of Perth’s city centre, visitors can take their pick from a range of different experiences.
Your clients can sample fresh food and premium wine in the Swan Valley, the state’s oldest growing wine region; relax in one of the world’s largest inner-city parks, Kings Park and Botanic Garden; watch an iconic Indian Ocean sunset at one of Perth’s 19 pristine metropolitan beaches; or explore the bohemian city of Fremantle, with its heritage streetscapes, café culture and thriving craft beer.
And of course, Rottnest – Perth’s island paradise – must be on the list, with ferries departing several times a day, from Fremantle, Perth city and the northern coastal suburb of Hillarys.
The special fares are available now here until Friday 21 May 2021 unless sold out prior. Selected routes, travel dates, days and conditions apply.
