Travel agent slams ScoMo over lack of industry support with cheeky meme

Travel agent slams ScoMo over lack of industry support with cheeky meme

A Victorian-based travel agent has crafted a cheeky little meme to slam the federal government over its lack of support for the sector.

Linda Forster, who created this absolute tear-jerker of a video back in October highlighting impact of COVID-19 on agents, has been at it again, this time putting her talents into meme production.

Using the template of the viral This is Bill meme, Forster praised Labor leader Bill Shorten for his support of the continuation of JobKeeper.

In October, Shorten made an impassioned speech about supporting travel agents through the COVID-19 crisis, which you can read about here.

Forster’s meme comes as the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) continues to push for ongoing tailored government support for travel agents, travel wholesalers and tour operators.

AFTA chief executive Darren Rudd is in Canberra this week – the first sitting week of Parliament for the year – to meet with a range of Cabinet Ministers, including Tourism Minister Dan Tehan, and other key influencers.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison didn’t rule out further support for the travel industry when asked about it in January. However, he said it was “too early to make those calls”.

Meanwhile, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg reportedly rejected calls to extend JobKeeper for the hospitality sector, and then followed up over the weekend by ruling out an extension to JobKeeper beyond 31 March.
