From sundowners to Zoom yoga: How Bench Africa is keeping agents engaged

In a time of self-isolation and social distancing, keeping personal touch as a key part of your business is more important than ever.

Bench Africa is doing this in spades. While lucky enough to still be at full staff capacity, the company is making the most of its private Facebook group and Zoom to keep travel agents engaged and maintain their relationships with the company’s BDMs.

Bench BDM’s have been hosting ‘Agent Yoga’ via Zoom to ensure agents are looking after their health and well being during this chaotic time, as well as introducing ‘The Bench Bunch’ to help agents get to know the team a little more personally.

“This way when agents call and speak to someone over the phone, now they will know a little more about them,” Cameron Neill, general manager of Bench Africa, told Travel Weekly.

The team has also been holding sundowners and morning teas with agents so they can chat to the Bench sales team about the week ahead or the week that has been.

“We understand sometimes just that support makes the day so much better,” Neill said, adding the team has also videoed themselves having a sundowner and going on a game drive from the comfort of their own homes to try and “bring a smile to their face”.

However, Bench hasn’t left out training.

“Our Vic BDM Nicki has created webinars for agents to watch in their own time, online Kahoot challenges and destination cheat sheets,” Neill said.

“And Nicky, our WA BDM, has put together some great training material for agents so when we can travel again, they are confident in selling Africa.”
