Life in the time of COVID-19 with Spencer Travel’s Penny Spencer

We’ve given our Midweek Interview a facelift to suit the times, starting off with none other than the managing director of Spencer Travel and industry legend Penny Spencer.

What are you reading?

The Third Wife by Lisa Jewell. She is a great thriller author.

What are you watching?

Total Control on the ABC. I love Australian series.

What are you listening to?

Smooth FM – something I can always sing along to.

What are you cooking?

Ginger Crunch. Yummm!

How are you staying fit both physically and mentally?

Walking the dogs every day and talking to good friends, as well as supporting other people in business.

What’s the one thing keeping you sane?

Probably sane and insane – family. Having the kids around all the time and bonding with them on different levels has been nice, but also having everyone home is causing some insanity as well.

What’s something positive you’ve witnessed or experienced since the coronavirus hit?

Kindness, people looking out for each other, helping each other, and mostly supporting friends and strangers.

What have you learned about yourself amid the crisis?

My resilience, but also my vulnerability.

What’s your advice for others in the travel industry on coping with the crisis?

Connect and talk. Having different groups of people that you can get different advice, humour and empathy from is important. Everyone is going through the same thing – we are in this together and, therefore, let’s be together.
