In a galaxy far, far away: Star Wars-themed cruises prepare to set sail

Queue the opening crawl, because ‘Star Wars Day at Sea’ is almost back on the high seas for another year, courtesy of Disney Cruise Line.

Guests of Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Fantasy and Disney Magic are in for a treat in the coming months, with the eagerly awaited return of Star Wars Day at Sea’s nine seven-day cruises.

Sailing from Port Canaveral, Florida, guests can celebrate the adventures and characters from the Star Wars saga on Disney Fantasy’s special sailings from January to March 2020, taking them to the Caribbean and a galaxy far, far away.

While Disney’s Star Wars-themed hotel, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is set to open in 2021, Disney has been offering Star Wars Day at Sea since 2016.

In addition to being surrounded by some of the franchise’s most iconic characters – Darth Vader, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Kylo Ren – the cruise also features a full day of activities.

These include live shows, Star Wars-themed family and kids’ activities, unique food and beverages and special merchandise offerings, such as Jedi robes, lightsabers and baby Yoda dolls.

According to Disney Cruise Line, the day ends with ‘Summon the Force’, a deck party that celebrates the Star Wars universe and caps off the night with a fireworks show of “galactic proportions”.

Sailings are still available to get on this year’s cruises that feature Star Wars Day at Sea, including the ‘7-Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise from Port Canaveral with Star Wars Day at Sea’ and the ‘7-Night Western Caribbean Cruise from Port Canaveral with Star Wars Day at Sea’.

Star Wars Day at Sea will only be offered on nine Disney Fantasy seven-night, the first departing 11 and 25 January, and 22 February 2020. These sailings form part of an eastern Caribbean itinerary that includes Tortola, St. Thomas and Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay.

A further sailing departs 8 February 2020 to the eastern Caribbean itinerary, which includes Tortola, San Juan; Puerto Rico and Castaway Cay.

While a western Caribbean itinerary – departing 4 and 18 January, and 1, 15 and 29 February 2020 – includes Cozumel, Mexico; George Town, Grand Cayman; Falmouth, Jamaica, and Castaway Cay.
