Globus just made it to 90 years! Here’s how they did it

How do you stay in business for 90 years?

A question we pondered as we looked around at the room of happy faces at Globus’s 90th Birthday Celebration on Wednesday night. For it is indeed a small wonder that one man and a rowboat in 1928 could go on to create one of the largest Travel companies in the world.

Even more incredulous is that Globus, whilst expanding, has managed to retain those initial family values that founder Antonio Mantegazza first brought into play almost a century ago. Now with 32 offices and 5000 employees dotted all around the world it is truly a travel empire.

An empire that newly appointed Managing Director Australasia Gai Tyrell made very clear was not changing its tune in regards to direct sales strategy saying,

“Our focus will absolutely remain with the industry – this company has been built on partnerships and collaboration and that will continue”.

Gai pointed out that although this was a celebration of 90 years of Globus it was also a celebration of the industry and media partners that had been intrinsic to the success of the company.

Another gem of wisdom that we will personally be stowing away is “the best deals are made over a long lunch” Amen to that.

There was a tangible positivity at Sydney’s National Art School that night, a feeling of comradery and warmth.

Sure, that warmth might have had something to do with the bespoke whiskey lounge…but the Globus team certainly played a part. With a host of team members from across the country and even retirees, it really felt like a big family, something that is surely a rarity for a company of this proportion.

So, in answer to the initial question we think it comes back to the people. The man who started it all, the people he chose to build his dream and the 5,000 strong global team still keeping the wheels turning 90 years on.

Here’s to you Globus and thank you for having us – I think it’s pretty clear we had a fabulous time.
