Five things you didn’t know about American Airlines
If you haven’t heard of American Airlines, we don’t believe you.
They’re one of the most well-known airlines around with the expertise to prove it.
Whilst you may have flown with them before, American Airlines has invested over $3billion in the customer experience and have a whole lot more to offer than you might have thought.
So here’s a few things you may not know about the world’s largest airline:
They’re the largest in the world
And yep, we mean it.
They have an average of 6,700 flights daily, to 354 destinations in 56 countries. And the airline is only growing – they are announcing new routes and new daily flights every year. They fly to everywhere you can think of – not just around the USA. In fact, American Airlines serves more destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America from the U.S. than any other carrier.
The airline has almost 1000 aircraft in their fleet and employs 130,000 staff worldwide – including over 4,000 at their headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, which they are currently rebuilding, and are expecting to open in 2019.
There’s Wi-Fi onboard
The future is here, and it’s onboard American Airlines flights!
Wi-Fi is available on almost all of their domestic US flights and the majority of international flights as well. Both can be purchased once on-board – and for domestic flights, you can even purchase before boarding. Which means the only thing you need to worry about is what kind of Instagram filter you’re going to use for your obligatory in-flight ‘gram. You can even purchase a convenient monthly pass! American is also rolling out streaming Wi-Fi, so you have can stream the latest TV shows and movies to your personal device onboard.
You’ll also score complimentary access to aa.com on all flights with Wi-Fi. And did we mention there’s also live TV? Which means you won’t miss out on final of the Bachelor while you’re in the air.
They fly where you want to fly, when you want to fly
American Airlines have seasonal services across their network – to destinations like Venice, Dubrovnik, and Auckland.
Every year, they introduce new seasonal flights. In 2019, for example, American will add a sixth destination in Cuba with a new daily flight from Miami International Airport to Antonio Maceo Airport in Santiago de Cuba starting May 3. The airline will also start new service from Dallas/Fort Worth to Durango International Airport in Mexico starting June 6.
American will also add new service to some of its existing international destinations from Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami , Charlotte (North Carolina) and La Guardia Airport (New York) to keep up with seasonal trends.
They have great food
American Airlines collaborate with a range of celebrity chefs. The airline currently has a partnership with Chef Sean Connolly on their Flagship Business menu out of Australia and New Zealand, and this is currently being considered for the Premium economy menu.
Food from Zoës Kitchen will also be available on domestic flights from December 1, serving up delicious sandwiches, wraps, cookies, and the kitchen’s signature hummus.
On any given day, American serves over 133,000 meals. Oh, and $6.2 million USD is spent annually on coffee alone – so you know they’re not going to run out!
Paws for thought
American Airlines also recently celebrated the successful launch of the first-of-its-kind emBark program at Sydney Airport which highlights the life-changing work achieved by Assistance Dogs Australia (ADA).
In an Australian first, twice a week at American’s check-in counters at Sydney Airport, travellers are able to enjoy the company of ADA’s fully qualified Assistance Dogs whilst checking in to their flights.
