WATCH: All the best things about being a Travel Counsellor

For the past few months, we’ve been running a series of fabulous Travel Counsellors videos each week, and now, it’s time to share our last episode.

Travel Counsellors are so sure of how wonderful it is to be a home-based Travel Counsellor, they went out and talked to a bunch of their agents about what makes being a part of Travel Counsellors so great. Hence this video series was born.

So for this last, special video, we thought we’d take a look back at why Travel Counsellors love their jobs so much. And boy, are there a lot.

In this episode, a multitude of Travel Counsellors share why they became a Travel Counsellor in the first place, and what they’ve loved about it since.

“When I was working for a corporate travel agency, I always thought: there has to be a better way to do this,” one agent said.

Other Travel Counsellors said they were attracted to the company because of the flexibility it offers, and said things like:

“I had four years off, and I absolutely loved my time at home, but something was missing and I just wanted to get back into the travel industry.”

“I gave it up for about 10 years when I had kids, until I found Travel Counsellors. I immediately felt right at home and I thought: yeah, this is the fit for me.”

And:

“I worked in corporate for about 13 years, then I had my first son. It was a little bit hard so that’s when I started looking for work from home. And [Travel Counsellors] were able to answer all the questions I had and the worries that I had about working for myself, and I signed then and there.”

Since 2007, Travel Counsellors have been helping Australian travel agents launch their own home-based businesses, completely supporting them throughout the process – from admin, to finance, to marketing, to PR, to IT.

They’ve also got a business development team, who are only a phone call away for new Travel Counsellors. Oh, and there’s support from a local land and air helpdesk team and a 24/7 global Duty Office monitoring world events to look after your customers while they’re travelling. What more could you want?

Most Travel Counsellors work from home, which means cutting out their commutes to work (unless you count getting out of bed) and spending more time with their families, as well as their clients.

And not only do Travel Counsellors have their own businesses, they can work from anywhere! Plus, their earning potential is pretty much uncapped.

The top 12.5 per cent of Travel Counsellors take home over $160,000 a year. No, we aren’t joking. Phenix, their in-house booking system provides access to thousands of travel products and allows agents to earn from eight per cent all the way up to 22 per cent in commission – which makes a world of difference compared to that of big, corporate travel agencies.

“I love that I can even work when I’m travelling. That I can be overseas and still continue to make money overseas and still continue to help my clients out,” one Travel Counsellor said.

Individual Travel Counsellors personally tailor trips to their clients, which is probably why the company has the highest customer satisfaction score of any travel company in the world – 70 per cent of leisure travellers return to Travel Counsellors and a whopping 90 per cent of corporate clients return.

“I love that sense of having my own business, knowing that I’ve got an amazing team behind me in head office,” a Travel Counsellor said.

“Within Travel Counsellors, we have a great community. Our colleagues don’t stop in Australia, either. We have a huge network globally.”

There’s a network of over 1,800 Travel Counsellors worldwide, and 150 in Australia already – all of whom have access to the 24-hour support team.
