Golden Princess dons rainbow banner to celebrate YES

In case you are living under a rock or on another planet, the Australian public voted a solid YES in support of marriage equality yesterday, and we’re all very proud.

To celebrate the momentous occasion, Princess Cruises’ 2600-passenger Golden Princess sailed into Sydney yesterday with a huge rainbow flag covering the front deck to coincide with the imminent announcement of the result of the national marriage equality survey.

The giant 24.5-metre by 18-metre banner signified support for a ‘yes’ vote in the national survey on the part of Carnival Australia, which accounts for seven cruise brands including Princess Cruises.

In anticipation of the expected history-making survey result, and the promise of a prompt change to marriage law in Australia, Carnival Australia said it looked forward to all Australians having marriage equality.

“Carnival Australia joined with other organisations in advocating a ‘yes’ vote in the survey because we saw marriage equality as the right thing to do and a matter of fundamental fairness,” said Carnival Australia Executive Chairman Ann Sherry.

“With the survey result soon to be announced and the strong likelihood of a positive outcome, our cruise lines whose ships currently host onboard weddings will soon be able to offer these ceremonies to all Australians with full equality under marriage laws.”

Golden Princess arrived in Sydney today at the conclusion of a 14-night round trip cruise to the Pacific Islands with calls at Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia destinations.

Great work guys.
